Tom’s experiences in residential real estate began at an early age, working at a family- run real estate appraisal firm after school while in high school. After commercial and multifamily management experiences, Tom settled into residential sales full-time in 2001. He has been a consistent Top Producer throughout his career and was recently recognized by Washingtonian Magazine for these achievements.
A rare multi-generational Washingtonian, his career has shown great versatility, having worked in just about every neighborhood within and around the Maryland/District of Columbia Metropolitan area. Past clients range from first-time buyers to more seasoned homeowners who are down-sizing from the family home after many years, all in varying price parameters.
Tom joined Washington Fine Properties [WFP] after 16 years selling real estate in the DC area, including ownership of his own boutique brokerage of approximately 10 agents, Riley Residential Properties, LLC. WFP, with a sales volume of $.27 billion, is widely recognized in the Washington region as one of the most successful, locally owned, carriage-trade real estate firms in the United States.

Keeping up with enormous family
I cannot recommend Tom highly enough. He was extremely patient with me and knew what I wanted and got it for me.
Tom Riley, who I have known for 25 years from his commercial real estate days in Silver Spring, is a Montgomery County residential Realtor who I would like to highly recommend. My only regret is not beginning the process of selling the Lee family home with Tom sooner. Our family decided to sell our 5-acre, historic home after having it in our family for almost 70 years. After listing with another agent for over a year, the house did not sell. With the same price, Tom’s calm demeanor and expertise, along with his company’s cutting-edge technology, Tom helped procure a very successful transaction for our family.
Since I just hung up the phone with you and thanked you, this will give me one more opportunity to express my gratitude to you. I can't thank you enough for all your time, efforts, patience, generosity, knowledge, and expertise in seeing the sale of 4000 Oliver through to closing the sale. Please know everything you did was very much appreciated by all. It was our pleasure to work with you. May this little token of appreciation bring a smile to your face each time you make a smile.
You've been excellent to work with as a Realtor, and the extra contacts for contractors, etc., made the renovation process much easier. We appreciate all of the pitching in your wife and kids did, too!
Thanks for going beyond anything that could be reasonably expected in helping us with the renovation. We appreciate your efforts.
You have been working with my mother during this time of getting the house ready to sell, and then the sale of the house. Everything you have done has been brought to my attention. I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate what you have done.
We are so grateful for all that you have done to help us find (at last!) a good Woodmoor home. You were so patient every step of the way and always looked out for our best interest.
Thank you very much for all of the help in buying my condo. You were such a help, and I love the place.
After twelve years of residing in our home we made a very difficult decision to try to sell our home. Throughout the process we received endless hours of professional service, advice, and support from Tom Riley in the most respectful and beneficial manner. Together the team tackled every aspect of the potential sale of our home from pricing to staging, and negotiation. There is no issue too big or small for them to conquer. In a consistent, non-pressured manner, the team is readily available to help and be your advocate. We are forever grateful for the commitment of Tom, Anne, and Mary in representing us in our real estate interactions. In the future, we will use Tom and the team whenever the need may arise.
With our deep appreciation,
I will always be indebted to you for the way in which you handled Mom's home sale. It needed a certain touch that only a few could have. I thought this was going to be a very difficult holiday season, but your professionalism, diligence and care has made it quite the opposite.
Many, many thanks for all your hard work. You are the perfect agent!
Meant to do this sooner, but moving in and getting settled has taken some time. We both just wanted to say “thanks again” for all your help in closing the deal. The house is coming along well, and we're both becoming very handy. Look forward to seeing you again soon.
Thank you for your assistance during our recent transaction. Lately, it seems rare to find an agent who cares enough and has the skills to do the job right. I was pleased to have the chance to work with you, and I sincerely hope our paths will cross again. Thanks again for the extra effort. I noticed and I appreciate it.
I wanted to send you a note of thanks for all of the assistance you provided us over the past two weeks. Your professionalism and candor are commendable and, for that very reason, we are disappointed in not being able to complete the transaction. Once again, we appreciate all of your hard work in this matter.
I know that you will agree that I have taken an insanely long time to write this letter to you. I am writing to finally thank you for selling my home! You are the one who went so far above and beyond the normal duties of a realtor to help me get the house in some kind of decent shape. My gratitude is indeed deeply heartfelt. I cannot thank you enough for all of your work. You were my “knight in shining armor” when I needed help the most. I feel so fortunate to have chosen you as our realtor. You are truly the best.
Tom – let me add my thanks. You were terrific. I look forward to the next and final executive committee meeting.
If you'd been a lesser agent, we'd have had more time together! We must celebrate the triumph with the rest of the “executive committee” (Maureen, Paul, Sean, Sheila, Michael) over some cold ones, at which time you can hand over the closing docs.
I just got back from vacation WITH MOM and am still recovering. It’ll be years of therapy, no doubt, for all parties involved. Thanks for all your assistance with Uncle Hugh's house. Janet is very reassured by you and immensely relieved to have someone she finds so trustworthy solving the house-related problems. ugh's house is/was such a vast and intensely personal component of Hugh himself, the dispensation of the property was looking to be almost as emotionally exhausting as Hugh's death was for her. Now she's much more relaxed and able to focus on the personal minutiae (letters, trinkets, plates, pictures); that in turn is allowing her to experience the goodbye process as an appreciation of the person and not as a distressing heartache.
I cannot recommend Tom highly enough. He was extremely patient with me and knew what I wanted and got it for me.
After living in Woodmoor for 46 years, I was delighted that my neighbor, Tom Riley, became my Realtor. His manner was low-key and he was very efficient.
I want to take this opportunity to report something good: my experience and satisfaction with the services of Tom Riley. From getting the house priced and ready to show to getting the last of the “stuff” out the door, Tom was with me. His demeanor, knowledge of the area, broad range of contacts and willingness to help were invaluable. House buying and selling is never easy, and of course, my case had some special twists and turns, but it was all handled professionally and quickly. I especially appreciated that he would tell me when he had taken a question or problem to you and your associates. I was really glad to know that there is an experienced staff standing behind Tom to provide advice and guidance when needed.
We're all moved in and the boxes are steadily getting emptied. We see that Tom has another listing up the street from our new house. I'm sure his success will continue with the winning combination he's established with Washington Fine Properties.
Your straightforward approach and attention to detail took all the stress out of a difficult situation and made the entire process remarkably swift. We will certainly keep you in mind if another situation comes up.
We worked with Tom Riley on the sale of my parents’ house in Kensington – which they had owned for over 50 years. Tom was not only very knowledgeable on the market but was also a true partner in the sale process. He advised us on pricing, preparation, and staging. He found contractors to help us with repair projects and moving and was even kind enough to meet with some of them on our behalf, when we could not get there. Tom made a challenging task a very pleasant experience. The proof was in a successful, efficient sale at a very favorable price. My family and I highly recommend Tom and would absolutely call on him in the future. “ABOVE AND BEYOND!”
Tom Riley is a straightforward, thoughtful real estate professional. He has extensive market knowledge, contacts and experience in the Maryland/DC area. Tom is a pleasure to work with, and during our recent successful home sale he had answers and follow-up action for every issue we faced. We highly recommend Tom, he is responsive, smart and reliable — just a great guy to work with!
Two attributes set Tom apart: the attention he pays to critical details and his communication with his clients. Tom is always on top of even the smallest details and is constantly in touch with his clients. From marketing the listing through closing the deal, Tom’s personal attention never flagged. We couldn’t have had better service.
What I appreciate most in Tom is his thorough understanding of local real estate and his unique ability to connect with his clients to provide exceptional personal and tailored service.
Tom, thank you so much for your generous support of the Lilabean Foundation Amazing Race! With your help, we raised over $10,000 for a very important research project we are funding.
Thanks so much for agreeing to work with my friend—and for your success in making her the happiest I’ve ever seen her in a long time!
