Real estate has always been an important part of Susie’s life. Her grandfather developed a large portion of Chevy Chase, DC, and her father was a builder. Susie’s brothers are also in the home construction and renovation business. She began her real estate career selling new homes for Richmarr Construction Company and then working for her father in new home construction, where she oversaw the construction, sales and marketing of numerous projects. She credits that experience with giving her hands-on experience in all aspects of home building, including land acquisition, design, financing, permitting and zoning.
Susie later worked in commercial real estate. One of her more important projects was the development of Dulles Corner, a 3-million-square-foot office building complex near Dulles Airport. Susie worked with some of the region’s top lawyers in negotiating large-scale leases and joint ventures, including 370,000 square feet for ATT. She also worked with a number of the region’s best architects, landscape architects and general contractors to help realize these projects. From this work Susie developed valuable skills and experience that she now uses in assisting her residential clients.
Susie has held leadership positions in the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA), the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks (NAOIP) and Commercial Real Estate Women of Washington (CREW).
Susie’s in-depth experience in the home construction business, as well as leasing and marketing large-scale office buildings, make her an invaluable resource to clients in all phases of residential real estate.

Susie and Lucy,
It’s been about three weeks since we went to settlement on our home in Washington, DC. Both of us were very apprehensive about selling our home of more than 35 years. There seemed to be a large number of decisions we would have to make and a limited amount of time to make them. However, with the guidance and recommendations you provided, we were able to maximize the sale price and minimize the time the house remained on the market. As we have thought about the process, it is clear your market knowledge and the setting of realistic expectations were key to the success of this effort. The attention to detail and the follow up that you and Lucy provided were a key factor in the successful sale of the property. You provided a professional and personal touch that made the effort a success.
Trying to sell a house is always a challenging process and often complicated by emotion on all sides. Having a knowledgeable and rational advisor is crucial. Susie and Lucy possess an exceptional knowledge of the Washington real estate market — including the Maryland suburbs. Their knowledge of the various neighborhoods, the schools and public amenities, and the intricacies and anomalies of how deals are negotiated in DC, was all invaluable in determining the right price and marketing approach for my family's home in Chevy Chase. From a practical perspective, Susie and Lucy helped me every step of the way &mdash from staging and repairs, to photos, to coordinating showings around my daughter's nap schedule and other family needs. When offers started coming in (early in the process as Susie had predicted &mdash the result of proper pricing and an excellent pre-marketing campaign), Susie was the perfect partner to negotiate and close the deal. Even when faced with a difficult buyer with unusual demands, she maintained her natural grace and diplomacy throughout. Susie is a true gem. You won't get better advice from anyone else, and you won’t find a better, more caring agent to help with your real estate needs.
Recently my wife and I engaged Susie Maguire, one of the most active and senior agents for Washington Fine Properties, to represent us in finding and buying the perfect home for us to purchase in the Bethesda/DC residential neighborhoods or in Georgetown. Susie was highly recommended to us from several mutual friends, and she really made a commitment to helping us with our project. She was particularly helpful to us in two major areas: the first was in showing us the different neighborhoods in Bethesda and DC, which required a lot of her time since we were moving from New York; and the second was that she knew which homes were coming on the market in advance, since she was so familiar with the neighborhoods and in many cases had bought or sold homes in the neighborhoods where we were interested. In the end it took considerable effort and time to find our new home, but she was committed to helping us achieve our objectives no matter how long it took. And most of all she was and is very friendly and easy to work with, which is such an important quality in a real estate agent. So I am happy to recommend her highly to anyone looking to buy a home in the Washington/Bethesda areas.
Working with Susie and Lucy was an absolute pleasure. They went above and beyond to make the process easy.
Their in-depth knowledge of the Chevy Chase area and connections with agents, builders, contractors, and others were critical in securing the exact offer I wanted in virtually no time.
I was particularly impressed with their preparation, research, and the high level of personalized attention that they offer. They help with every step of the process and work to make sure that the strategy is right for your needs and expectations.
I highly recommend Susie and Lucy!
Dear Susie and Lucy:
We cannot thank you enough for shepherding us through the sale of our house in Spring Valley and the multiple moves and problems that arose through my emergency surgery at Duke and requirement that I stay in Durham and then Charlottesville for an indeterminate length of time. There is no doubt in our minds that no other team would have so carefully tended to every detail and then gone way beyond what was required or expected to make certain that our move to Charlottesville took place without a hitch. To have done that with great grace and caring is a gift we will be grateful for always.
Your sage advice about setting a price for our house and staging it appropriately ended with a contract in just a few weeks, and settlement and rent-back dates that met our needs. We appreciate that you worked hard to resolve potential snares in the process.
You went beyond what was required or expected in facilitating the move to Charlottesville with our children, Metropolitan Movers and Done in a Day. We were grateful you didn’t change your phone numbers, given the number of calls you received.
Your professionalism sold our house, but it was your cheerful and unending attention to the details of the entire process that won our hearts. Thank you.
We are pleased to recommend Susie Maguire and her team at Washington Fine Properties for the outstanding job they did in marketing and selling our Spring Valley home.
Susie was recommended by a neighbor, whose home Susie previously sold. Within 30 days of signing a listing agreement our home was ready, and we received, negotiated and signed a firm contract in 14 days.
The words that describe Susie and her team are efficient, competent, honest, communicative and available; attributes we expected and, are pleased to report, we received.
Susie was a consummate professional as well as steadfast friend throughout our home search journey. She was as eager and determined as we were to find the right fit and forever home for our growing family. Susie had an extraordinary intuition when it came to our needs. She always seemed to know when we needed her to intervene and hold our hands with certain decisions but, and possibly more importantly, she knew when to step back and allow us to process and consider certain issues ourselves. She’s highly knowledgeable with all things real estate…and her relationships with other agents provided us with early insights into properties that hadn’t yet hit the market. We always felt that Susie had our best interest in mind and we felt that we were in safe and competent hands. I can't think of a more qualified and caring real estate agent and feel so fortunate that Susie was ours. We are now living in the perfect home for our family and we owe that all to Susie and her wonderful WFP team.
We worked with Susie and her team on the sale of our former home and purchase of our current home. She calmly helped us navigate the many decisions and leverage points of both transactions. We always felt informed and in good hands throughout the process. I really appreciated being able to tap into the "Susie-approved" lenders, home inspectors, painters, title companies. etc. All were amazing and I wouldn’t hesitate to work with any of them again. On a personal note, Susie is a neighbor and she acted neighborly throughout the process and to this day – hosting our dog on open house day, checking in on our move, and always stopping to chat with our kids on her daily walks through the neighborhood. There’s a reason Susie has such an amazing reputation in the area - you won’t find a better agent or nicer person.
I have known and worked with Susie Maguire for almost seven years now. She has been our agent in four separate transactions. She is the utmost professional and expert anyone can expect in residential real estate. Susie is a trusted friend whose advice is incredibly valuable. She has a keen eye for detail, and always works with her clients' interest at heart. She just completed a deal for us, that was very precious to us, and only she and WFP could have done it.
Susie Maguire was my agent for the purchase of 2 homes in one year! She guided me through choosing the right location for my needs and showed me many homes before they were on the open market. She is able to do this because she has lived in this area her entire life, which gives her endless contacts. She guided me through the settlement process, inspections, insurance, and anything else I needed. She is a one-of-a-kind, full-service realtor and she is the best there is!
There is no one we would recommend more highly than Susie Maguire. Her professional judgement
and deep understanding of the market provided us with a path that brought us the right buyers and a
sale price that exceeded comparable listings in our area. The process should be a fun experience, but it is also one that demands an experienced, caring, respected agent that will not only guide and counsel you but someone that will forge a partnership with you until the end. Susie’s professionalism and attentiveness to detail did not go unnoticed, and as bittersweet as it was selling our home where we raised our family, it was really a wonderful experience.
I have had the privilege and the pleasure of working with Susie on the offering of my family homestead “Evermay” back in 2008 and was recently asked to write a testimony on her behalf. I very much welcome the opportunity.
You should know that our search to select the best real estate agent in the metro area for the task was a lengthy and arduous undertaking, and our decision to award the sale to Susie was based almost entirely on the thoroughly researched, convincingly presented and orchestrated negotiations managed exclusively by Susie. There was never a moment during her tenure as lead negotiator that the Belins didn’t believe we had the best in charge, and she was never more than an instant phone call away, day or night, if at any moment we were concerned about something. She worked tirelessly to avoid wasting our time and brought us only credible buyers. She was sensitive and punctual in all her dealings, and there was never a moment where we thought she was not giving the sale of Evermay her all.
This letter comes with the confidence in knowing Washington Fine Properties should consider themselves fortunate to have one of real estate’s finest in their midst.
Very truly yours,
We have bought and sold many homes over the years and we have to say that working with Susie Maguire and Kathy Kiernan was the best experience we have ever had in real estate. They were the most professional and helpful agents, taking care of all our needs quickly and efficiently. They coordinated, oversaw and resolved repairs and upgrades necessary for the sale of the house. We followed their advice, and our house sold within days at the price we were hoping to get. It doesn't get any better than this.
We am writing on behalf of Susie Maguire who we have had the great pleasure of working with as our real estate agent. Our entire experience with Susie was excellent. In both the selling of our home and the purchasing of a new one better suited to our needs, Susie displayed initiative, diligence, integrity and professionalism. She was completely available to us throughout the process and answered our questions and concerns with intelligence and thoughtfulness. Susie is a skilled and experienced agent, and as a native Washingtonian, she is unrivaled in her ability to match the right properties with the right clients. It is no wonder that Susie was recognized by The Wall Street Journal as one of the Best Real Estate Agents in America. We consider ourselves very lucky to have partnered with Susie Maguire for our real estate transactions. We will continue to use her in the future and to recommend her to our friends. We give our highest endorsement to Susie Maguire and Washington Fine Properties.
WFP was the perfect choice for the sale of our home. Susie Maguire took complete charge of the process, and in her expert hands, the project was completed with great success and in record time. We were skeptical of some recommendations, but we trusted Susie and deferred to her judgment. We were especially impressed by the team effort employed at WFP. Susie knew our neighborhood well, but still we had input from a great number of the other WFP agents in setting the sale price of our home. The method that WFP used to determine the price seemed very well developed, thorough and inclusive of all of the right considerations for us. In the end, we felt that it had been smooth sailing and the outcome was perfect — our home had multiple offers and sold during the first weekend. Hindsight is always 20-20, and now we can see that Susie's advice was spot-on.
As closing has occurred and our move completed, Judy and I wish to express our sincere gratitude to both of you on the tremendous job you did on our behalf. All the stages which went into the sale were completed with the utmost care, attention to detail and professionalism — from the valuation of our home, the staging of our furniture, the creation of the beautiful marketing pieces, the broker events, the prospective tours and your deft handling of all contract negotiations — all resulted in your finding the right Buyer for our house.
We worked with Susie Maguire and Kathy Kiernan on the purchase of our new home and the sale of our previous home. I can say without reservation that they are the best real estate agents we have ever encountered — and not simply because of their supreme professionalism, attention to detail, unparalleled knowledge of the local market (they priced our house so perfectly that it sold in a day!) and amazing responsiveness. More than that, Susie and Kathy truly understand the deeply personal and emotional aspect of buying and selling homes. They counseled us wisely and listened to us patiently. For them, this was more than just a business transaction — they wanted the best for us and helped us get it. As a result, what could have been — and what, in past real estate transactions, has been — an incredibly stressful experience was, thanks to Susie and Kathy, a pleasant one all the way around. Perhaps the best testimonial we can provide is that, our business dealings over, we count Susie and Kathy as good friends.
Susie Maguire has handled two real estate transaction for me, and she handled each in such an excellent manner that I recommended her to my daughter for the purchase of a new house and the sale of her previous home.
Almost seven years ago Susie helped me purchase a condominium in Washington, DC, and then two years ago she found me a property in Bethesda. Without Susie neither of these transactions would have happened. Susie is extremely professional and, having lived in the DC metro area all her life, Susie is tied to the community. Susie knows who to call for everything and knows everything that is going on in the area! Without her knowledge I would not have found my new property.
In addition to being an outstanding real estate agent, Susie is a delightful person. She responds to calls and emails swiftly and is always happy to give helpful advice. Susie is smart, energetic, optimistic and in every way a pleasure to be with.
Susie handled my daughter’s purchase and subsequent sales as if she were taking care of her own daughter. Susie’s advice and help preparing my daughter’s first home for sale was outstanding and indispensable. I am sure that it increased the amount that the home sold for. When I am ready to sell my DC condominium I would not consider using any one other than Susie Maguire.
Susie and her assistant Kathy are the dream team! From start to finish, they are so easy to work with. As first time home buyers, we had a lot of questions - and Susie and Kathy were there every step of the way to make sure we understood everything. The depth of their experience and their relationships across the industry make them extremely valuable to anyone going through this process. Susie and Kathy worked around the clock for us and were incredibly proactive and responsive. They are smart, professional, diligent and an absolute pleasure to work with.
We had a wonderful experience with Susie, Kathy and WFP. They guided us every step of the way with patience and attentive professionalism. They were always available to answer the many questions we had as first-time home buyers. They have a keen sense of the dynamic Washington, DC, area real estate market and know what it takes to successfully navigate it and help their clients find the right home.
We thoroughly enjoyed working with them, and we could not be happier in our new home!
There are multiple roles for real estate professionals: They obviously must know the market, what is available, what is going to be listed on the market and what is the fair price for the property. There are other skills that are needed as well: They must know how to listen to what their clients say and be able to decipher and translate the sometimes half-thoughts and whims into a concrete statement of needs. Susie Maguire has this unique combination of skills.
When we explained to Susie that we would be in Washington, DC, for only one week and wanted to leave with a signed contract, she and her team went into overdrive and found us the ideal place. When we explained that we lived overseas and would need financing, she used her contacts and found us the best mortgage banker in the region, someone who was willing to work with us to make it happen. When we said we would need an attorney to set up an LLC, she got us the best law firm. Throughout the very complex process, Susie remained on top of everything; there was never any kind of "last-minute rush." Every question that was asked was answered promptly and completely. Susie and her team were not just good in helping us acquire a new residence, they were outstanding.
It would be hard to imagine going through the sale and purchase of my homes without Susie Maguire and Kathy Kiernan. Nothing was too much to handle ... and always with a smile. Ultimate professionals, these ladies are sharp, candid and precise. The house for sale was priced correctly, fixed up and moved quickly! The new house was then identified and the contract accepted. This is not where it stopped! Financing, moving out, moving in - they were there for it all! This team would be impossible to beat!
Susie Maguire did an amazing job helping us find and purchase our first home in Georgetown. She is smart, friendly, committed, and an overall pleasure to work with. Despite the fact that we purchased our home only days before Christmas, she was available at all times to show us properties and answer our many, many ... many questions. She even called us on Christmas Eve with an update! She helped ensure that our home-buying process was thorough and educational, but even more importantly, that it was fun and as stress-free as possible. We love our new home! Thanks, Susie!
I would like to express my deep appreciation for all the help and hard work of Susie Maguire and Chuck Holzwarth. They are the epitome of professionalism and went the extra mile to get the job done, from dog supervision to staging to monitoring closely the progress of the impending settlement.
I think my house was particularly caught up in the craziness of the current market. When an offer had been made, I was particularly impressed by the rapid response to my question about whether it could be determined what the contract prices were for other houses in my price range. Chuck and Susie dug in, as usual, and obtained information so that a decision could be made.
Moreover, they were particularly attentive and supportive during an extremely stressful and traumatic life event. They were also great fun and I feel that they are now lifelong friends, not just realtors passing in the night!

Dear Mr. Landry,
Most likely you hold your agent Susie Maguire in high regard. We certainly do. We know Susie as a friend and then saw her professional side when she marketed our house at 3710 Leland Street in Chevy Chase, Maryland. She gives her all to her clients.
Susie guided us through the "staging" of our house in Chevy Chase, always remaining considerate of our lifestyle and that of our two dogs. She was always available. I do not know how she managed with the other clients she has. She held almost weekly open houses for us, even giving up her Mother's Day, to take advantage of the May market. She gave up her personal time to help make out home look special. She educated us to the current housing market, guided us through the pricing, and did a wonderful marketing job. She informed us but left the decision to us and, above all, always kept our well-being in mind.
Susie is an impressive woman. She is attractive, has a wonderful presence, is warm and friendly, has phenomenal people skills and can handle even the most difficult ones, and, most of all, is a very caring person.
We would recommend Susie and Washington Fine properties to anyone planning to buy or sell a home.
Very truly yours,
It might be an understatement to say that Susie Maguire only did an outstanding job in navigating us through the process of selling our home. We received multiple contracts within the first week of our house being on the market and closed on schedule. Susie's personal expertise, and her ability to draw upon the resources within Washington Fine Properties, provided invaluable guidance in pricing our home, selecting the best buyer and negotiating the finer point of the sales contract. Through the entire process Susie balanced diligence and responsiveness with patience, professionalism and confidence with kindness. Our experience with Susie at the helm was terrific.
Very best regards,
From her Clients:

"When we returned from four years of living abroad, we entered the market at its peak - Spring 2005. My husband and I had specific requirements in searching for a home, which I shared with Susie Maguire. She assessed our needs and was able to find the perfect home for us that suited our lifestyle and our budget. It was a complicated negotiation, but Susie guided us to a swift and satisfactory close... we have continued to refer friends and associates to Susie, who have all been 100% pleased with her attention to detail and expedited results. Finding a home is the easy part, selling a home is far more difficult... Susie excels at both!" Barbara Schaefer McDuffie
"Susie was there for us during the country's most difficult economic conditions. She worked very hard, had creative ideas, and her unfailing optimism never once faltered." Betsy Knight
"Susie is a true professional and a collaborative partner. She was thorough, resourceful and thoughtful in how to present our home." Chuck and Marren Harrison
"She knows the market and knows how to deal with clients and service people. She was efficient, precise, effective, and always a pleasure to work with. I recommend her without any hesitation or qualification." Richard E. Quandt
"I thought you would like to know that when I reached the decision to sell my house ... I remembered the charming, informative lady who was the broker for my neighbor's house. She not only sold my house immediately at a top price with efficiency and charm, but today we are friends, meeting occasionally for lunch - three of us: the broker, the buyer and me, the seller. It doesn't get any better than that." Lorraine Murphy
